What's she hiding?

Sharon was hiding something, Jenny knew she was.  But what was it?

---

Sharon's phone went.

"Auntie Sharon, it's Harvey.  I'm still stuck inside."

"I know Harvey and believe me I will get you out. I'm working hard.  Nick has been threatened, Sam was kidnapped, Leanne and Simon are withdrawing their statements. Har har har."

"But Auntie Sharon, I'm frightened in here. I'm sharing a cell with a bad man."

"I know sweetie.. har har har.  But you just need to wait a bit longer."

---

Rita was drunk.  She was sitting on the bench outside Audrey's Hair, Wax and Nail Salon.  She was drinking straight out of the bottle, discretely wrapped in a copy of the Weatherfield Recorder.  Gemma sat next to her.

"Sharon was one of the first that I fos fos fostered," Rita said.  "She was hard work, but look how nice she's turned out to be."

"Yeah I know. She's so lovely and so stylish.  I love her hair Reets, and the way she walks.  She is a proper little businesswoman and one day I hope to be like her, though I don't think I'd suit the leather trousers," replied Gemma. "And I can't do the laugh ho ho ho."

"Leather trousers, red leather yellow leather red leather. I used to say that 20 times as a warm up when I was singing you know.

"Yes Rita.  You've said 10 times today already."

Jenny came out of the pub to sweep the pavement. "I don't trust her one bit.  She's hiding a secret, mark my words."

---

Right at that moment, instead of hiding a secret, Sharon was hiding up the tree at the bench outside the hair salon.  From her vantage point she could hear what Rita and Gemma were saying and she could hear Jenny's comments too.  "We've all got secrets," she thought to herself.  Sharon reached into her pocket and took out a toffee. She unwrapped the sweet and popped it into her mouth and started to chew ferociously whilst balling up the wrapper.   She leaned over slightly and dropped the wrapper. It fell into Rita's massive hair, and lodged itself there.

---

Gemma and Rita left.  Rita left her empty bottle lying on the bench.  Sharon shinned down, and slipped the bottle into her handbag, careful not to touch the neck of the bottle where Rita's DNA lurked.  Her phone went again.

"Auntie Sha. It's Harvey. You've got to get me out of here. I'm stuck inside accused of selling counterfeit toffee throughout the north west, and only Leanne can get me out. She alone knows the truth.  I didn't do it Auntie," he said, his voice cracking at the end as he broke down in tears.

"I'm working on it love, har har har.  I'll have you out soon."

"It had to have been Leanne that was selling them toffees. Her and curly Si have set me up."

---

Jenny was in the back yard of the pub, stacking up crates.  Sharon crept silently along the ginnel, and saw her opportunity.  She reached into her bag, and took out the empty bottle, still wrapped in the Weatherfield Recorder.  With one vicious blow, she battered Jenny, knocking her to the ground unconscious.  Sharon left the bottle behind, and dropped three toffees beside Jenny.

"That kills two birds with one stone," she said and left.

Rita has no recollection

Rita woke up, hungover as usual.  She was fully dressed, and so she reckoned that she must have been pretty tanked up the night before. She got up off the couch and staggered around, tripping over her high heels. "Here, what's that on me shoes?"   She bent down (slowly) and picked up a shoe.   "Blood? That looks like blood. Where did that come from?"

Mary and Brian catch up

The Rovers Return Mary: I often wonder what you see in me Brian. Brian: Mary, Mary, Mary. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou are more lovely and more temperate. Mary: But Brian, I very much fear that my summer is fading fast. Brian: In truth, you're probably at the stage of the first frost of autumn. Mary: And yet do not the apples hang lustily from my boughs, waiting to be picked, to be pulped, to be fermented and turned into the sweetest cider? Brian: I like a good cider. Mary: I used to like cider. I would drink it with friends after school. It made us very naughty and we played the most silly games of dare. Once, my friends dared me to steal a policeman's helmet. Brian: And did you? Mary: Of course. I got mother to help me. She entered the police station to report me missing, and insisted that she had murdered me. This meant that she had to be interviewed, and during the interview mother pretended to have a psychotic episode, during which time she picke...
