"I want to.... handmyselfin," said Max to Kit the cop.
Max was standing in Weatherfield Police Station, wearing a yellow sou'wester hat and an anorak. He had been in hiding for the past few days but now he'd decided to give himself up.
"I did it. Not David or Leanne or Abi. It was...." He paused. "Me."
"I'd heard David arguing with Shona about money, and I realised that the only.... way to get some money was to burn down the house...., and then to claimontheinsurance."
Kit ushered Max into the interview room, and both men sat down. The duty solicitor was still in the seat from when the producers had shot the last scene. Max hired him immediately.
The Duty Solicitor whispered in Max's ear. "I'm really just an extra and not an actor so I'm not allowed to speak. It's part of the cutbacks on Corrie. I'll raise an eyebrow if I think you need to slow down a bit."
Max nodded. Even in the short time he'd be in the street he'd seen some cutbacks. David had once had long hair, flowing in curls, which he wore down his back to his waist. But cuts to the shampoo budget meant that David's hair had to go. Carla's factory once had lots of staff and sewing machines but again cutbacks now meant that staff were thin on the ground and machinists seldom worked. Thread is so expensive.
"Did you do it?" asked Kit.
"Yes Mr Policemen. IdiditforDavidand... Shona," replied Max. His strange intonation took Kit aback.
The Duty Solicitor looked at the camera and nodded sagely. He had been told just to sit there, but he felt that a little bit of improvisation might be a good career move, and if not it would at least please his grandmother who was an avid viewer of Corrie.
"Take him down to the cells," instructed Max to the uniformed officer standing in the interview room. He was also an extra and so said nothing as she laid his hand on Max's shoulder. The Duty Solicitor was slightly jealous as his role didn't include any movement.

David and Shona were arguing. Lily was upstairs in her room practising her football skills. She envied Tracey Barlow who used to be sent upstairs to play some tapes. Lily would have been happy to listen to Spotify, but modern audiences liked excitement in their storylines, and so the producers insisted that she should be a footballer.
"I wanted Max to run away to live with Auntie Becky in Benidorm," said David.
"I wanted him to do what was right," replied Shona. "And if he lived in Benidorm he'd be forever looking over his shoulder."
"He could have gone to live with Gail in Ghana," said David before realising what he had just said. "No, you're right Shona. Being banged up has to be a million times better than living with Gail."
Shona hugged David. They'd been through some hard times together, but recent events had brought them together again. "I love you David Platt."
"I know," he replied. "But you must promise me that it's all over between you and Kit, Lisa and Craig." David was, of course, alluding to the mad night of passion that she'd enjoyed with the three officers a number of weeks before.
